An MCP server for your website: what it lets an assistant do
An llms.txt tells an assistant what to read. An MCP server gives it tools: search your site, read a product page, check availability at the moment the question is asked.
MCP in two sentences
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT calls outside tools. An MCP server announces a list of tools, each with what it expects and what it returns; the assistant chooses to call them when a question calls for it.
The tools we give your site
Each site has its own, depending on what we found on it: the product tools only exist on a shop. You choose which ones are on.
- Search the site: searches your pages and posts by keyword, and returns for each the title, address, a summary and the passage found.
- Use your site's own search: runs your site’s own search, live, and returns the pages it finds.
- Search products: searches your products by keyword, category and price range, and returns the price, availability, photo and address of each.
- Check product availability: says whether a product can be bought now, and how many are left when the page shows it, with its price.
- Add to the visitor's cart (in their browser, after they confirm): prepares adding a product to the cart: see below what it does and does not do.
- Read a page: returns the markdown version of one page of your site.
Three ways to call them
- The MCP server, for anyone’s assistant: Claude, ChatGPT, or any other that accepts a connector.
- In the visitor’s browser (WebMCP), for an assistant that browses your site alongside your visitor.
- A JSON endpoint, for your developers.
All three answer with the same tools and the same data.
What they never do
- Nothing is bought. From the MCP server or the endpoint, adding to the cart only hands back the product page’s form; in the browser, it adds to the visitor’s cart only after they confirm. Payment always stays on your site.
- Nothing is made up or changed: the tools return what your public pages say, and availability is read again on the product page at the moment of the call.
- Nothing behind a login is read: only your public pages.
Adding it to an assistant
Your dashboard gives the address of your MCP server. In Claude or ChatGPT, add a custom connector and paste it: the assistant sees your tools and can use them at once. Anyone can do so with your address; that is intended, just as anyone can read your pages.
